Owning a home is just the beginning. There are regular upkeeps and maintenance that ensure that your home not only looks beautiful all the time but is also secure from internal damage and external weathering. Home repair is an exhausting and challenging proposition for homeowners. Especially if you are totally new to the task.

As a result, the long list of tasks to be delivered within a short span of time can be quite unnerving. Most the times some minor tasks are overlooked leading to further damages. This hampers the job even further. A ready list of ‘KNOW HOW’ before the next session of home repair can act as quick tips to help you get the job done easier and better.

Dos -

1.Go through a quick inspection of your building or apartment. Maintain a checklist of the areas that have to be repaired. Always invite the home inspection officer a few weeks ahead for consulting and thorough inspection. It would help to identify the problems areas before home repair.

2.A lot of time the DIY technique helps to save your valuable resources. It includes activities cleaning, waxing, remodeling of furniture and floors. Even issues like painting, redesigning the rooms and gardening can be accomplished without any professional help.

3.Always check whether your home insurance covers the cost of accidents and home repair costs. Only a few banks and mortgage firms provide additional loans for home repairs. Often the home insurance provider cover gardens as well as your home office contents.

4.It very important to check with the homebuilders and home improvement firms before signing a contract. Consult your real estate attorney regarding the legal details of the working terms and conditions.

5.Always opt for the builders and home repair service providers who cover an annual maintenance and repair. It is done over minimal fees that can be repaid within no time by the home loans. Always remember to renew the service contract with your home improvement firm.

Don’ts -

6.Never assign the task to a home improvement firm outside the territorial or zonal builders. You would be breaking the laws.

7.You must hire professional help for specialized technical home improvement tasks like plumbing, wiring, gas lines, roof repairing and brickwork. When comes to installing your fireplace or repairing the electric geysers never rely solely on that do-it-yourself tendency. Neglecting serious cable wires or that plug on the kitchen sink may cause further accidents.

8.Do not ever tie-up with any contractors or builders outside a working contract. Do check about the background of the company.

9.Never forget to ask your home insurance provider the details of the contents insured. An ideal home insurance would provide the costs of home repair. It should include your house and its fixtures, fittings, garages, bicycles. Some of the companies would even provide you with insurance for the tennis court, swimming pools, bathtubs, gates, walls, patios, driveways, walks and fences. Most often the insurance firms are not willing to cover such objects. But with the monetary funds from mortgage and home loans it becomes convenient to pay for home repair.

10.Never sign any legal documents regarding work contract before scrutinizing.

And most importantly — planning plays a crucial role. It becomes necessary to discuss the details and the schedule with all members of the family before conducting any home repair activity. This will add to the comprehensiveness and reduce the need for change later.

How difficult is it to do a home repair on a head gasket for a car, specifically an SUV or a Van?
Looking to buy a used car and see alot of them with Head Gasket problem's. They say its a cheap repair usually running under 100$ but I was wondering how much labor it is to do it. Will do at home if its easy enough, my dad know's a lot about cars and says it's hard and not worth it but I have a feeling he's being lazy.

My fiancee collected chalkware. My experience with it tells me that only certain glues will work with it. If there are fractures in the piece that have not resulted in pieces falling off, DO NOTHING. If they do end up breaking a piece off, glue it back with white glue, NOT epoxy or super glue.

the product that you want to use is called home fix its like acar bondo
but its made with fiber glass strands inside of it it is made for us home owners and me …a lic contractor.
ps you can add some paint to it after you have mixed it up it helps so when you go to paint over it the paint covers it Real nice
good luck

As for the reinstalling of software, you own a license to those programs and should be able to reinstall them on the same computer as many times as necessary. The limit on how many times you can install office refers to the number of simultaneous installations that you are allowed. As for the laptop, forget the hassle of trying for the repair. If you return it, then you can get a new one immediately. If you try to use the warranty, it could take…who knows how long.

You have two avenues: manage everything by yourself or hire a general contractor. I'd suggest the latter, they have had way more experience and have a ton more contacts than you.
Interview tons before deciding on one. Have them work up an estimate, ask for references on prior jobs, maybe find an architect you like and ask them for referrals. I'd go at it from every angle to find the right one. It will be very helpful you are willing to move out for the process (esp when moving/changing bathrooms and the kitchen this is a life saver).
During the most major remodel I did, my favorite part was having a detail-oriented contractor who did such a nice finishing job that I could not have come up with better solutions for tricky small details. From start to finish, he did everything. Another contractor (friend) I hired wanted the get through the work and preferred the heavy work but wasn't detail oriented so now, years later, I'm still finalizing the finish work myself (painting, etc).
MOST IMPORTANT: Get in writing what the estimate will cover, ie: dump runs, product/supplies, paint, finish work, cleaning, labor, prep, etc. Both parties should sign it. Don't pay for full amount till project is done. Ask for contractor's license number. Follow the rules! For resale and safety purposes, don't work-around permitting.
Good luck!

sorry but this guy knows jackshit about drywall

Just so anyone will know, don’t use mesh tape it is shit and hard to finish, just use the paper tape and it’s much easier

check your hardware. i've seen some old routers and laptop wifi cards give me similar problems. also if you live in a place that has a lot of networks around it may make it more difficult for your laptop to connect.

def a two coater. the first coat is gonna sink when it dries,

It is possible that it just went into its regular defrost cycle. You say that you unplugged it after it shut off right? If when you plug it in it does nothing at all, meaning it does not even try to start, just leave it plugged in and on for 30 to 45 minutes to let the defrost timer turn it back on. Most of the time if the compressor takes a crap the evaporator fan (the fan in the freezer) will still run even if the compressor stops.

well, overheating can very well crack a head. its a good sign that the car still starts. that shows that no compression is being lost through a crack in the head. your fan is controlled by a tamp switch. this switch also gives you your temp reading on the gauge. the temp switch tells the cooling fan control unit when to turn the fan on. if the mechanic had to hit your fan to turn it on you probably have a short it the fan motor. a new fan would be needed. if the control unit proves to be bad you can always wire you fan to a switch to avoid costly repairs. however, doing this would force you to keep a constant eye on your temp gauge so you know when you need to turn it on. the fan should kick on around 3/4 on the gauge( about 200-220 deg.) as for your overheating, this could be caused by several different things. your thermostat may not be operating properly(stuck closed), your water pump could have failed(you would see coolant leaking out the seep hole…pretty obvious honestly). your radiator could be clogged with dirt, bugs and other crap you run into while driving down the road. your fan not turning on when needed (while sitting at an idle, your temp goes up pretty quickly).
your brother is right about the pressure test. you shouldnt exceed 13 psi on the gauge for the tester. however, this will only tell you if there are leaks. it will show if the water pump has blown a seal causing it to leak out the seep hole.
what you should have done: do the pressure test to check the water pump(replace it if needed), change the thermostat(again), replace the fan motor(check to make sure the fan kicks on when its suppose to. otherwise hard-wire the fan to a toggle switch which should be mounted in the cab of the car) and do a radiator flush. having the flush professionally done should help with your heater issues as well. and check your hoses…you could have a clogged hose. also have your radiator blown out(the mechanic will use a air nozzle with lite air pressure to do this( to much air pressure could destroy the fins on the radiator….wouldnt be good…the radiator has to have air moving through it to cool the coolant)
the second fan in your engine compartment is for the A/C. air moves across the condenser to keep the pressure on the high side of the A/C around 250psig. this fan will only turn on when you turn your a/c on it is controlled by a fan switch on the high pressure line…if the a/c is operable.
just cause the mechanic is a christian doesnt mean he doesnt have a business to run…he WILL get every penny out of you that he can. in a professional manner of course.
hope this helped. feel free to email me if you have any other questions
