If you have ever tried to purchase home improvement products such as flooring or any other type, you know how frustrating it can be and how the overwhelming number of options can leave you more confused than you were before you started. You also know how the sales representatives at stores can ask you questions that you do not know, resulting in another trip to the store.
It is not hard to avoid such issues and still get the information you need if you know the right questions to ask and things to do before you make a visit to the home improvement store you plan to do business with.
For the purpose of this article, we will discuss the necessary steps to take when planning to visit a flooring store, but the same type of planning can be applied to most situations related to remodeling.
Make sure your store visit goes smoothly by going through this simple checklist below.
Before you go, consider drawing a simple outline of your room indicating;
* Room exits
* Adjoining room floors – type and color
* Sources of sunlight and other lighting
* Subfloor – what’s underneath (sometimes you can pull up an in-floor heating duct to see)?
You will also need to;
* Measurement – length and width, include closets. This will help you explain your needs to the salesperson.
* Measure the distance or the gap from the bottom of the doors to the top of the floor in the rooms that will have new flooring. This will tell you if the bottoms of the doors will have to be shaved to accommodate the new floor.
* Make a note of the color and type of baseboards that are currently installed. Include shoe molding if it exist.
Bring with you to the store:
* Swatches – room fabrics, paint chips. These will help you match floors with your decor for your room design.
* Pictures – take pictures of the rooms that are going to receive improvements. These pictures will serve as a guide in case you have to make a different choice than you originally planned.
Questions the salesperson may ask you:
Durability/Performance
* Is there light or heavy traffic in this room?
* What is the room used for?
* Do you have children and if so, how old are they?
* Do you have pets and if so, what kind?
* How long do you want this flooring to last?
* Is there a door to the outside in the room?
Style/Appearance
* Do you have a certain color in mind?
* What are the room’s lighting sources?
* What types of furnishings do you have?
The New Look
* What’s the style of the room? Traditional? Contemporary? Rustic?
* What’s the feel of the room? Casual? Formal? Somewhere in between?
Questions you may want to ask the salesperson:
* Estimate – Do charges apply?
* Samples – Available to take home?
* Underlayment – What type is required?
* Warranties on flooring – What is offered?
Flooring Installation
* What is the cost?
* What is the installation procedure?
* Who handles appliance and fixture removal and replacement?
You Need To Know
* Who disposes of old flooring?
* Are new moldings, wall base and toe kick required?
* Will the new flooring add height to the room?
* Are installers certified?
By following these simple steps, your visit to the flooring store will be more productive and will enable you to get a more thorough explanation of the flooring products that are available as well as information you need to get the flooring you want.
Other benefits include knowledge of the flooring installation steps that the company follows and how much you will have to pay for this service.

Home improvement or appliance store employee discount?I am planning on purchasing my first condo this summer & typically keep a second job thanks to college loans. Can anyone recommend a store to apply to because of their great home related products discounts? Thanks in advance!

Seems like a frivolous lawsuit….
Just my opinion
Wow, you put a lot of thought into this.
As long as you keep in mind 3 year olds don't always do what they are expected, you should be okay. Your games and creativity are really nice and the parents will appreciate the effort; however, kids like simple things and some of it may be a bit overdone and they may loose interest.
Sometimes something as simple as a temp. tattoo made with the Cars theme will be easier and the kids will be happier with it. Or maybe a Pinata with the Cars theme. Overall, I think they will have a great time if you keep leading them into the right direction they will play all the games.
Personally, I like the idea of having a slideshow. I also like the idea for the name tags. Names can get confusing easily! I don't think you need a doorprize for the adults. They will have enough fun just coming to see the kids play. And the food is perfect. The kids can play and eat easily instead of being expected to sit down for a meal. I would recommend cupcakes instead of a sheet cake for them.
Have fun!
First of all from a man's point of view that's extremely romantic. I would put the items in a suit case since no one would question why you have one with you. Then set everything up before you pick him up and then when you get to the hotel ask him if he will get you a soda and meet you in the room. That way you can get to the room yourself light the candles and what ever else prior to him coming up to the room. Have fun and good luck!
If I was you I would either buy a 5 gallon tank or a 3.5 gallon kit. I have never seen a kit for a 5 gallon tank.
I will tell you what you will need.
1. Tank ( we will say you are getting the 5 gallon)
2.heater
3.filter
4.rocks
5.plants
6.cave ( especially if you get nocturnal fish)
7.food ( if getting a betta you must get betta food)
8. hood
9. Run your aqaurium light for 8 to 12 hours. (when you wake up and shut it off when you go to sleep)
10. Choose a betta that looks healthy. Make sure there is no fin splits or rottage
11. Make sure you get easy plants to take care of.
12. You could get some ghost shrimp for your tank to. They are like $.20 some cents. Also, you could get one snail. ( make sure you don't get 2, they breed to much)
So if I help you write this book by giving you my plot ideas, will you give me credit and royalties when you've sold the story? Didn't think so. You need to come up with the story yourself – it's YOUR story, and you need to know it inside and out, backwards and forwards. You don't want to run into the problem of a lawsuit down the road, where someone tries to lay claim to your story by saying they contributed part of the plot. Try coming up with a few ideas and bouncing them off of people you trust. Good luck!
Sounds like an interesting read- i loved the preface and i understand that the start is always different from the rest of the novel because of character introduction and all that, but seriously, keep on working on it & well done
I would redo the floor with real tile and re-plumb the sink. It should not be easy to get a sink to leak, certainly not involving a screw.
I would write this up as building maintenance, not involving tenants.
You made my night! Thanks and Happy Mothers Day to you!
