Independent Seniors

In the case of seniors who wish to live at home instead of spending the rest of their days in retirement or nursing homes, senior help or in home care is available. They can get help to manage their legal transactions, do their shopping and grocery, drive them to community activities, and clean the house and cook their meals. In case of a medical emergency, there is always someone around who can take them to the hospital.

These are the seniors living in their own homes or living on their own. In today’s society, it is impossible for their children to be around all the time. Hence, senior help is getting to be the best solution around.

How In House Care Can Make Lives Better

But living in their home makes a big difference to the seniors. They would rather stay at home where they have lived for years and be near their friends. Some may opt for a senior nursing home if they need nursing care and therapy, but still it is in their homes where their hearts are.

At home, old people need companionship. This happens at a time when their adult children have families of their own, are working, or out of the country. Some of the elderly are unmarried and have no children, which makes their lives lonely.

Fortunately, in-house care providers do not only do the mechanical routine of cleaning house and cooking meals, or checking if their charge is all right physically. They also provide friendship and companionship, badly needed by the seniors who have lost most of their friends or who have families out of town.

The caregivers are also there to help the seniors:

· Make the most of their time keeping them productive

· Meet people and establish new friendships

· Keep fit by walking in the park

· Keep mentally alert by reading to them and explaining the TV sitcoms for the hard of hearing

· Keep in touch with family and friends

Making Lives Better for Family Members

Caring for the elderly is not for the faint hearted. It requires physical strength, tons of patience, money, and some skill. It also affects one’s health because the task is physically demanding. Although it may cost to get in home care, the benefits that can be gained from it cannot be converted to its cash value.

As a primary care provider for your parents, you do the following chores daily:

· Prepare their special meals early in the morning

· Feed them

· Bathe them

· Assist them with their toilet

· Give them their medicines

· See to it they are comfortable

· Take them to doctor for medical consultations

· Shop for their needs

· Clean the house

With in home care, you can go to work without worrying about your parents, have more time for your family, and take business trips out of town.

He needs help with personal care, house-keeping, medication, trips to the Doctors and paying bills. How do I check on applicants? Is there anywhere I can look to see someones (possible) criminal history – specifically in regards to caring for the aging? Do I need to hire a private investigator? I don't have much money – are there state or county orginizations that can help me with this? Applicant specific? If you can help me ask the right questions I would be most grateful.
Elder care is such an issue that many of us might find ourselves dealing with it. We could be facing the duty of caring our elderly loved one, elder parents or a friend. The issue of elder care becomes significant when cases of broken bone or signs of dementia occur between elders. Added to this if any elderly family member has just returned from hospital, their proper caring becomes an important issue. In most of the cases the nature of these conditions tends to be fragile. Hence, situations demands adequate assistance in everyday activity. In order to ensure the welfare of elder adults, elderly home care is the best available options.

Sometimes, elder people refuse to shift to other places, even if the situation demands. For example, due to higher education or better career options relocating become inevitable. Sometimes, senior adults suffer from a sense of insecurity and lack the self-confidence. They prefer to stay at their own known place. Under this kind of situation, home care services for the elderly are one of the effective solutions.

Elder care is not limited to providing medical care. The aim of elderly home care ensures that senior adults lead an active lifestyle. Elderly home care ensures that adults become self-sufficient as much as possible. The caregivers or the companions help the adults in taking part in various activities according to their interest. With an active body, the mind equally becomes active, thereby adults regaining their self-confidence.

Locating elderly home care service becomes an easy job, if you take the help of Internet. You can also ask your friends and colleagues about the numerous types of services available with home care. But it would be sensible, if you hold a conversation with your elderly loved one before taking the service of elder home care. With this conversation, you will be able to know about the preferences of near one and avail the service accordingly.

It is a pity that many senior citizens are moved to nursing-homes or hospitals, who might just require helping hand in running daily tasks of life. The solution to this type of problems lies in the hand of elderly home care services. Senior citizens, who need non-medical support, are also benefitted from this service. Senior home care services can provide a substitute to long-term care.

These services include light housekeeping, meal preparation, errands and shopping, respite care, meditation assistance, hygiene assistance to name a few.

The longer period senior citizen spends time at their own home, they will stay healthy both physically and mentally. In 2000 I relocated back to Pennsylvania to start a life with a new wife and family. My mother stayed and many questions arose. What do I do if she cannot live day-to-day being able to care for herself? How can anyone take care of a loved one so far away?”

That’s when Elder home care agencies now began to focus on remote care giving and taking the burden off families and loved ones of those that need care. Non medical home care allows your loved one’s to live where they want to be … their own home.

There are many elder home care agencies now around the country to help educate families and provide care to loved ones. Here are some questions to consider when determining if your loved one needs professional care:

Does your loved one need assistance with walking?

Has their physical and/or emotional health been declining?

Are they able to prepare nutritious daily meals?

Are they able to shop for themselves?

Are they able to manage their bills and financial responsibilities?

Are they taking their medications on time?

Are they still able to drive safely?

Are they in need of companionship?

Are they able to dress and groom themselves?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, professional home care might be an option for you. When considering agencies, choose one that can offer more than basic homemaker services, including dressing, bathing and other hygienic activities. Because not all states require licensing, be sure to check that the agency is bonded, insured and licensed.

For piece of mind for you and your loved one, understand the caregiver’s background and experience. Elder home care agencies should be able to provide you this along with conducting a criminal background check on its employees. You also should be able to meet with the caregiver before you agree to services to make sure that personalities match and you are comfortable with the service they provide.

Since home care services are non-medical, they currently are not covered by Medicare. But you do have options. Elder home care services can be paid individually or by long term care insurance. Often, funds from associations are available as well. For example, contact the organization that is involved with the illness that your loved one is afflicted with. Funds are sometimes available for their members.

Veterans and their spouses might qualify for the Disability Pension for Aid and Attendance. Others decide to take out a reverse mortgage. Whatever your situation, the proper research can determine the best route for financing care.

Most importantly, stay in contact with your loved one and the people involved in their care. Establish periodic phone calls and visit when you are able. Conversation shows you care whether you are in the same room or across the country.

Some examples of non-medical elderly home care may include: preparing meals or help with feeding, assistance with bathing and grooming, light housekeeping, assisting with medication, grocery shopping, bill paying or running errands.

In our particular caregiving situation, family members have teamed up to provide much of the home care for my mother-in-law, who has advanced Alzheimer’s disease. However, at times, we have enlisted the help of friends, our church family, and companies specializing in elderly home care services to provide for her needs. Even if your family is well equipped for caregiving, its important to be familiar with some of the senior home care services that are available today. Taking advantage of these services may give you the occasional day off or vacation that you need, without putting undo stress on your family or friends.

Even if you have other family members or friends that assist you in caring for a loved one, there are times when they are not available. At these times, being familiar with companies or caregivers that specialize in providing elderly home care can be important. Each local area normally has companies that offer a wide range of elderly assistance services. Normally, you can find these online by searching for the word “caregivers.” However, here are some nationwide, senior care service providers, that you may want to consider.

Visiting Angels – Specializes in non-medical home care services for the elderly, allowing them to maintain as much independence as possible in familiar surroundings. They have over 300 offices across the country. Their website is: www.visitingangels.com.

Cargiver Needed – Search by state for caregivers, nurses, and sitters. They offer both non-medical and medical care for the elderly and for children. Both live in and live out caregiving options are available. Their website is: www.caregiverneeded.com.

Right at Home – They can provide home health care from as little as a few hours to 24-hours a day. Services include: caring companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, bathing assistance, respite for family caregivers, and much more. Their website is: www.rightathome.net.

These are just a few of the many resources that are available for today’s caregivers. Over the years we have been blessed to have family members and close friends that have teamed up with us to care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s. However, utilizing other caregiver resources has given us much needed breaks, while still providing excellent care.

Nursing At Home

Possibly through a period of temporary illness, or because clinical nursing procedures are necessary, you may need assistance from a qualified nurse, rather than a home care worker. Most of what follows in this section applies to home nursing as well as to home care, but there are particular regulations which nursing agencies have to observe. One such regulation to be noted is that the organization supplying your nurse has to be managed by someone who is also a qualified nurse.

The home care you need can vary from an hour or two each week, right up to full time living-in help. You can also have night care with, either someone sleeping in your home with you (usually known as a ‘sleep-in’), or someone who stays awake, ready to assist with any needs you may have. All services may be available over weekends and Bank Holiday periods.

Home Nursing Services welcomes your questions regarding how we may be of service.

Arthritis or inflammation of joints is one of the most common diseases of older and middle aged people. Living with this disease is really frustrating and disabling. Here are some of the common arthritis home care to help relieve the pains and discomfort brought by this disease:

Avoid inactivity. Stiffness of joints is one of the common symptoms of arthritis and it usually occurs after a long period of inactivity. One arthritis home care is to keep active to avoid stiffness and pains. Simple activities like walking your dog and cleaning the house can help to keep you active.

Balance between rest and exercise. Moderate exercises are beneficial to your arthritis but always remember not to overdo it. It is important to listen to your body and take the necessary rest after any physical activity to avoid putting too much stress and pressure to your joints. A balance between exercise and rest is good to your arthritis.

Mind your weight. One good arthritis home care is to carefully watch your weight. Excess weight means more pressure and stress to your joints especially on the knees. It is so easy to overeat at home, so it is important to put an effort to avoid overeating. Keep an ideal weight and avoid aggravating your arthritis. If you are already overweight, losing weight is beneficial to your joint problems.

Be careful with pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs. A common arthritis home care is over the counter arthritis medicines, but you have to understand that even nonprescription drugs have its side effects. It is best to talk to your doctor especially if you need to take drugs on a regular basis. Your doctor may present other options to avoid being dependent on arthritis drugs.

Practice proper movement. Wrong joint movement could cause injury to your joints or could aggravate your arthritis. Avoiding wrong joint movement is another arthritis home care. For instance, avoid overreaching. Avoid putting too much stress on your joints in reaching hard to reach shelves and racks, as much as possible make shelves and racks reachable. Bend your knees when you need to lift something and it is better to avoid heavy lifting. Ask help from your family members if you cannot lift or carry heavy things.

Get enough calcium in your diet. Keeping your bones healthy and strong is another arthritis home care. It is important to get the necessary calcium that your bones need to be strong. If you cannot get enough calcium from your diet, supplements maybe recommended.

It is important to know how to deal with your arthritis to get rid of its disturbing symptoms. Natural treatment for arthritis is gaining popularity now; if you want to get rid of the pains naturally visit Arthritis Free In One Month.

It can be wrenching to see the independence of a loved one or family member decline. Simple tasks that used to be effortless, such as cooking a meal or keeping a house tidy, can become impossible for someone who is recovering from a hospital stay or whose strength is declining with age.

As the population ages, more and more people will face the reality of an older adult who may need assistance to live independently. For many in this group, a nursing home or retirement center is more than they need; and yet complete independence isn’t realistic, either.

One option that is becoming increasingly available across the nation is senior home care services. These services allow many people to remain in their homes and enjoy the independence of their daily routines and familiar surroundings. Senior Home care services typically provide non-medical help with daily living tasks including meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands or even simple companionship.

When considering a senior home care service, it’s important to know about the agency providing the service and its process for screening and matching its employees with care recipients.

It’s never easy to make the decision to invite a stranger into your home to provide senior care home. But there are steps to take and questions you should ask of an agency that can help minimize the emotional trauma of leaving a loved one at home alone.

Of course, the first requirement is a criminal background check for any caregiver. However, we also believe it’s important to screen for intangible traits such as a caring personality and a desire to help people.

The most important step in screening is to verify the quality of the caregiver’s employment history while choosing a caregiver from any senior home care agency. Many senior home care agencies focus on building relationships with each client.

After a caregiver has been placed with a client, the agency should continues to monitor service through telephone calls and in-home visits to make sure the client is satisfied with the caregiver and the services provided.

Senior home care agencies now provide a range of non-medical services including assistance with hygiene (subject to restrictions in some states), meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands and shopping, weekend or holiday care, live-in or live-out care, temporary or long-term, and respite for family care givers. A senior home care agency also provides personalized care for seniors as an alternative to assisted living facilities or nursing homes. The longer a senior can remain in their own home, the more active both mentally and physically they will stay. Companions provided from home care agencies can help an individual with their routine and assist in their activities. It is a priority for a patient to continue to live a healthy lifestyle, which maintains a sharp mind, and using elder care services contributes to this goal.

Where Can One Get Home Care Service?

Home care agencies are licensed by the State after fulfilling the legal requirements before these can operate. You can find these agencies in areas where there the elderly population is high. You can check out the agencies online; their websites should provide an office address and contact numbers, should you wish to visit their office or call them.

How Do These Agencies Select Their Caregivers?

Extra precaution is exercised in the selection of their workers. A background check is done and workers are fingerprinted. They are also subjected to psychological exams to check if they are fit for the job.

Other qualifications are the ability to effectively communicate with the patient or client; and able to work with health professionals and the client’s family and friends. The caregiver should also be able to deal with his or her personal feelings, control his temper, and have lots of patience.

Caregivers from reputable home care agencies are always required to follow the highest professional ethical standards in serving their clients. They are also trained to handle a range of different needs and at the same help enrich their clients’ lives.

What Are the Services Provided?

There are various types of services offered in consideration of various needs. The agency usually provides home care service for a minimum of four hours, overnight, a week or long-term care.

You can request for someone skilled in handling auto accident injuries, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and patients recovering from surgery –whatever your need may be.

For childcare, you can ask the agency for a caregiver who can be a grandmother to your young ones; this was unthinkable ages ago but there is a growing need for this type of service because both parents have to work.

What Tasks Should Not Be Given to the Caregiver?

To be safe, the caregiver should not manage your finances and they should not be given the Power of Attorney to handle your business transactions.

Is Home Care Expensive?

It will always depend on the number of hours of service required. But long-term care is costly and health insurance or Medicare does not pay much. Clients have to contribute towards the cost from their own pockets.

Since everybody is eventually going to need this service, it is best to plan for this by getting a comprehensive retirement plan. Most agencies accept payment from various sources. Ask the agency about this before getting their services.

Why Home Care?

Caring for the elderly or the disabled is stressful and can affect one’s work. If there is no one to care for your aging parent, you have to miss work and if this becomes frequent, this will affect your job.

Non-disabled seniors and the disabled also prefer assisted living or home healthcare because they can stay in the comfort of their home and can be near their family and friends.

ICE (In Case of Emergency) plans include:
- Medication plans,
- A list of family and friends contact details.

What is a Personal Information Pack (PIP)?

A green cross sticker goes in very visible location on there front door, this indicates to ambulance or firemen that there is a PIP box located in their fridge, it contains all their personal information such as:

? Allergies
? Is the person an organ donor
? Who should be contacted in case of an emergency
? Medical details:

o Contact details of their GP and pharmacist
o Respiratory History
o Cardiac History
o Diabetes

? What Medication they are on
? Etc.

The information is then placed in a water tight bag, then into the plastic PIP box.

The pack also comes with a green cross keyring and is recognised by all emergency services.

Ease the Funding of Home Care

Home Care, shouldn’t cost the earth.

All home care is individual and there are many ways to ease the financial burden, such as;

1. HSE Home Care Support Scheme
2. Up to 41% Income Tax Relief
3. Family Contributions, etc.

Just 1 hour a day, can make a difference, when you call us on 1890 500 005, we will go through all the details as soon as you arrange to meet us.

More details about the HSE Home Care Support Scheme

The main priority of the Home Care Support Scheme is older people living in the community or those who are in-patients in acute hospitals at risk of admission to long term care.

Home care packages will also be available to those older people who have been admitted to long term care and who can (with support), return to the community. Packages may be offered to those already using existing core services, such as home helps, but who may need more assistance to continue to live in their community.

Home Care Support packages are also available for young chronically sick people and others who could continue to live at home provided they had adequate supports.

Home Care for the Elderly

Maybe you might fancy a night out at the opera or just bingo at the local club? Whatever your needs, we will try our best to fulfill them.

Home care services range from a couple of hours per week to 24 hours care, patients are independently assessed to find out their personal needs.

All patients are provided with ICE (in case of emergency) plans, these include full medical history, what medication patients are on and list of family members or friends contact details. They are very helpful and could save your life in an emergency.

Home carers are fully trained and a thorough security check is carried out.

www.infowars.com IN A SPECIAL NEWS BULLETIN, Alex Jones warns against the Big Government, Big Insurance Health Care Bill being forced down in the Senate despite opposition by members in both parties and an overwhelming majority of Americans. After all the denial, the final version of the bill proves to have in place the so-called death panels, the abortion funding, no public option, cuts in Medicare and forced coverage backed by heavy fines or prison. Outrageously, Senator Reid & co. have added a section to the bill, Section 3403, that prevents any future Congress from changing the Medicare Advisory Boards (ie the ‘death panels’). Section 3403 reads “it shall not be in order in the Senate or the House of Representatives to consider any bill, resolution, amendment, or conference report that would repeal or otherwise change this subsection.” Watch the video for Alex’s full analysis.
