“.. he thinks about his boyhood, and he mourns his vanished youth…..I am in the straight for Fifty – and grow younger every day”

-Henry Lawson, (When there is Trouble on Your Mind)

Yes, youth is indeed a beginning of new life, a transition from innocent youth to mature youth. The rolling years of fading youth is a period of transition from active days of the youth to the fragile period of ageing. Ageing is a biological phenomenon and must never be confused with the ageing of mind. Mind, if kept clean from the filth of the world remains evergreen in whatever age to come and situation to face. Since body grows weaker and one faces complications in moving around when age grows upon that person, helpful hands from others become indispensable and a welcome relief.

Selecting a home:

What the elder care homes offer is that essential care. When you select a proper elder care home, you can rely on their quality services and believe that your elder relatives will live in peace with them.

Caregivers:

Each and every care giver is experienced and tries to impart their best to the elderly citizens so that they may live in peace and happiness dwells in their mind till they are alive.

Varieties:

Elderly care services is however a broad term that encompasses such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in Home care. Elder care is changing rapidly according to the culture and social background of country.

Elder care, a different concept for different country:

Even for one country, regional variations exist with respect to the care for the elderly. Previously, elder care has been the liability of family members and was available inside the extended family home. Increasingly in current societies, state or charitable institutions are now providing elder care.

Reasons for development of elder care homes:

The decreasing family size is responsible for this; the greater life expectancy of elderly people, the geographical scattering of families, and an inclination in women to be learned and work outside the home are some of the factors responsible for this. These changes have made themselves conspicuous in European and North American countries, but presently it is showing its effect in Asian countries.

Profit and nonprofit organizations:

In most western countries, elder care facilities are self-supporting and aided with living facilities, nursing homes, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). There are some non profit organization looking after the welfare of senior citizens. There are business organizations, which looks after elders in lieu of monthly payment with an advance down payment. The condition of living, the care and warmth that the elders receive are the key factors in deciding which elder care home to select and which not to.

Why staying back at home is difficult?

If the elders are given a choice they would definitely like to stay in their own house. This sometimes becomes impossible because of the additional assistance they need when they grow old. The adult children of these elderly people face an acute problem while doing their jobs and looking after these old citizens. Therefore looking after the aged parent is a challenging task, which can be best done with the help of elder care services or respite care services.

Medical and non-medical elder care:

There is however, a subtle distinction between medical and non-medical elder care. In case of the former, medical insurance is mandatory in some elder care or respite care homes. Skilled medical assistance is required in case of the medical elder care. Therefore, the payment is also more when compared to the non-medical elder care.

Elder care homes satisfy two-fold requirements:

It is important to notice that elderly care services consist of two fold duties of satisfying customers. You need to satisfy the resident customer as well as the non-resident customer who is making the payment.

Independent Seniors

In the case of seniors who wish to live at home instead of spending the rest of their days in retirement or nursing homes, senior help or in home care is available. They can get help to manage their legal transactions, do their shopping and grocery, drive them to community activities, and clean the house and cook their meals. In case of a medical emergency, there is always someone around who can take them to the hospital.

These are the seniors living in their own homes or living on their own. In today’s society, it is impossible for their children to be around all the time. Hence, senior help is getting to be the best solution around.

How In House Care Can Make Lives Better

But living in their home makes a big difference to the seniors. They would rather stay at home where they have lived for years and be near their friends. Some may opt for a senior nursing home if they need nursing care and therapy, but still it is in their homes where their hearts are.

At home, old people need companionship. This happens at a time when their adult children have families of their own, are working, or out of the country. Some of the elderly are unmarried and have no children, which makes their lives lonely.

Fortunately, in-house care providers do not only do the mechanical routine of cleaning house and cooking meals, or checking if their charge is all right physically. They also provide friendship and companionship, badly needed by the seniors who have lost most of their friends or who have families out of town.

The caregivers are also there to help the seniors:

· Make the most of their time keeping them productive

· Meet people and establish new friendships

· Keep fit by walking in the park

· Keep mentally alert by reading to them and explaining the TV sitcoms for the hard of hearing

· Keep in touch with family and friends

Making Lives Better for Family Members

Caring for the elderly is not for the faint hearted. It requires physical strength, tons of patience, money, and some skill. It also affects one’s health because the task is physically demanding. Although it may cost to get in home care, the benefits that can be gained from it cannot be converted to its cash value.

As a primary care provider for your parents, you do the following chores daily:

· Prepare their special meals early in the morning

· Feed them

· Bathe them

· Assist them with their toilet

· Give them their medicines

· See to it they are comfortable

· Take them to doctor for medical consultations

· Shop for their needs

· Clean the house

With in home care, you can go to work without worrying about your parents, have more time for your family, and take business trips out of town.

Elder care is such an issue that many of us might find ourselves dealing with it. We could be facing the duty of caring our elderly loved one, elder parents or a friend. The issue of elder care becomes significant when cases of broken bone or signs of dementia occur between elders. Added to this if any elderly family member has just returned from hospital, their proper caring becomes an important issue. In most of the cases the nature of these conditions tends to be fragile. Hence, situations demands adequate assistance in everyday activity. In order to ensure the welfare of elder adults, elderly home care is the best available options.

These scenario plays out each and every day in thousands of American’s lives. “I had relocated to Florida in 1985 and my mother followed shortly after. In 2000 I relocated back to Pennsylvania to start a life with a new wife and family. My mother stayed and many questions arose. What do I do if she cannot live day-to-day being able to care for herself? How can anyone take care of a loved one so far away?”

That’s when Elder home care agencies now began to focus on remote care giving and taking the burden off families and loved ones of those that need care. Non medical home care allows your loved one’s to live where they want to be … their own home.

There are many elder home care agencies now around the country to help educate families and provide care to loved ones. Here are some questions to consider when determining if your loved one needs professional care:

Does your loved one need assistance with walking?

Has their physical and/or emotional health been declining?

Are they able to prepare nutritious daily meals?

Are they able to shop for themselves?

Are they able to manage their bills and financial responsibilities?

Are they taking their medications on time?

Are they still able to drive safely?

Are they in need of companionship?

Are they able to dress and groom themselves?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, professional home care might be an option for you. When considering agencies, choose one that can offer more than basic homemaker services, including dressing, bathing and other hygienic activities. Because not all states require licensing, be sure to check that the agency is bonded, insured and licensed.

For piece of mind for you and your loved one, understand the caregiver’s background and experience. Elder home care agencies should be able to provide you this along with conducting a criminal background check on its employees. You also should be able to meet with the caregiver before you agree to services to make sure that personalities match and you are comfortable with the service they provide.

Since home care services are non-medical, they currently are not covered by Medicare. But you do have options. Elder home care services can be paid individually or by long term care insurance. Often, funds from associations are available as well. For example, contact the organization that is involved with the illness that your loved one is afflicted with. Funds are sometimes available for their members.

Veterans and their spouses might qualify for the Disability Pension for Aid and Attendance. Others decide to take out a reverse mortgage. Whatever your situation, the proper research can determine the best route for financing care.

Most importantly, stay in contact with your loved one and the people involved in their care. Establish periodic phone calls and visit when you are able. Conversation shows you care whether you are in the same room or across the country.

Commercial establishments usually contract the services of a janitorial service company to cover all their cleaning needs. This is much cheaper than hiring regular employees to do the job. It is also much more convenient because professional results are guaranteed without need for supervision from within the company.

You might be surprised to learn, though, that janitorial service companies can be contracted for homes, as well. There are situations when you need their professional know-how, such as when dealing with water damage in the home. This could be caused by various things such as plumbing problems or the unpredictable Florida weather. Getting water damage is often an emergency situation so it would be a big advantage if you could get a janitorial service that could respond within an hour from your call. A good janitorial service will immediately identify and contain the source of the water damage and begin the restoration process on your property as soon as possible in order to prevent any further losses.

Water damage is not the only thing that a janitorial service can help you with, though. Please bear in mind that when it comes to cleaning requirements, a home and a business establishment have much in common.

Carpet Cleaning and Rug Cleaning

For one thing, most homes and businesses use a carpet to cover its floor area. For sure, there is need for regular carpet cleaning. Otherwise, dirt build up in the carpet can produce unpleasant odors. It could also breed bacteria that are health hazards. Taken together, the bacteria and the bad odor can greatly compromise the quality of indoor air. The soiled carpet would also ruin the aesthetics of the place. On the other hand, regular carpet cleaning keeps the carpet looking and smelling fresh and prevents it from becoming a health risk. Carpet manufacturers have often pointed out, too, that regular carpet cleaning extends the life of the carpet, resulting in considerable savings.

Proper carpet cleaning ensures a deep clean. This is best achieved through the use of hot water or steam extraction. Also ask the janitorial service for protectors and deodorizers that could help maintain the freshness of the carpet.

If you use a rug instead of a carpet, make sure that the janitorial service has the same high standards for rug cleaning.

Floor Cleaning

Some areas of the home or business establishment have tiled floors in lobbies, walkways, decks and kitchens. The best janitorial service companies use highly pressurized water for tiles and tile grout cleaning. Make sure that they do not leave any standing water and that there is quick drying time for their methods. You could also ask the janitorial service to provide grout sealing or tile glazing for more protection.

If you have marble floors, a good janitorial service company should be able to provide marble crystallization and polishing services.

Upholstery Care

Most furniture for seating have upholstery, whether in the home or in a business establishment. Upholstery care is, therefore, very important and ranks high among cleaning needs. Make sure that the janitorial service staff is skilled at cleaning upholstery without damaging its material. A good janitorial service would know how to handle various upholstery materials, including fabric.

Spot removal is often required when the upholstery gets a stain. In the home, this is usually caused by children. A pet is also the usual culprit for a stain on the upholstery. In business establishments, spot removal is often required for stain caused by coffee or watermarks. A professional janitorial service will know how to handle these problems.

Other Plus Points

It would be best if the janitorial service you choose uses biodegradable and environment-friendly cleaning products. Also make sure that the company maintains open communication lines with you to ensure smooth and worry-free coordination.

In this type of setting, care can range from someone stopping in periodically, to a live-in caregiver that provides 24 hour care. Some examples of non-medical elderly home care may include: preparing meals or help with feeding, assistance with bathing and grooming, light housekeeping, assisting with medication, grocery shopping, bill paying or running errands.

In our particular caregiving situation, family members have teamed up to provide much of the home care for my mother-in-law, who has advanced Alzheimer’s disease. However, at times, we have enlisted the help of friends, our church family, and companies specializing in elderly home care services to provide for her needs. Even if your family is well equipped for caregiving, its important to be familiar with some of the senior home care services that are available today. Taking advantage of these services may give you the occasional day off or vacation that you need, without putting undo stress on your family or friends.

Even if you have other family members or friends that assist you in caring for a loved one, there are times when they are not available. At these times, being familiar with companies or caregivers that specialize in providing elderly home care can be important. Each local area normally has companies that offer a wide range of elderly assistance services. Normally, you can find these online by searching for the word “caregivers.” However, here are some nationwide, senior care service providers, that you may want to consider.

Visiting Angels – Specializes in non-medical home care services for the elderly, allowing them to maintain as much independence as possible in familiar surroundings. They have over 300 offices across the country. Their website is: www.visitingangels.com.

Cargiver Needed – Search by state for caregivers, nurses, and sitters. They offer both non-medical and medical care for the elderly and for children. Both live in and live out caregiving options are available. Their website is: www.caregiverneeded.com.

Right at Home – They can provide home health care from as little as a few hours to 24-hours a day. Services include: caring companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, bathing assistance, respite for family caregivers, and much more. Their website is: www.rightathome.net.

These are just a few of the many resources that are available for today’s caregivers. Over the years we have been blessed to have family members and close friends that have teamed up with us to care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s. However, utilizing other caregiver resources has given us much needed breaks, while still providing excellent care.

The following advice includes pertinent information that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood about home based business success. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding if necessary.

I am going to be my own boss. I will be the one to call the shots. I will work at my own pace and time. I will have free time in my hands. I will spend quality time with my loved ones. I will succeed. I will enjoy my life.

So, you have decided to venture into a home business — where you work for yourself and greatly reap the fruits of your labor. However, there are some bad news and good news that you should be aware of.

BAD NEWS: Studies show that 80-90% of home businesses fail.

GOOD NEWS: Your business can be among the 10-20% that actually succeed!

How? By following the “12 Steps To Home Business Success.” And you can do that with PEP!

*P – PREPARING/PLANNING EXTENSIVELY

When you do decide to venture into a home business, the very next thing to do is prepare for it. Prepare a business plan. This will be the very foundation of your business. You can do this by following these steps:

1) Start with the basics.

What type of business would you like to get into? Would you be selling products, would you be offering services, or would you like to try both? In any case, you must decide on which particular product and/or service you would want to focus.

Have difficulty deciding? Here’s a simple but sure-fire tip: Focus on what you know and enjoy.

If you have a talent in writing and editing, you can venture into an editorial services business. Are you into graphic arts? Can you design/layout brochures, business cards, newsletters, etc. using your computer? Then you can get into desktop publishing.

Do you know how Bill Gates, the richest man in the world, reached the pinnacle of success? He decided to venture into the one thing that he loved — computers.

So, whatever type of business and whatever product or service you decide to start with, always make sure that you are familiar with it and that you have passion for it. The first will save you time, the second will keep you motivated.

When you are already decided about the type of venture you want, think of a name for your business. Make sure that it is unique, easy to remember, and professional. Of course, also make sure that it is significantly related to your business.

2) Gather your resources.

You cannot put up a business without a capital. This includes the monetary or financial capital, material capital (supplies, gadgets, etc.), and manpower. Do you think you are prepared to invest all this into your business?

3) Draw out your goals and set your mind into them.

Set general goals and specific ones. Formulate short-term goals and long-term ones. What do you aspire to achieve in one month, three months, six months, one year?

Visualize your goals. Have a vivid image of each goal in your mind. How do you see yourself a year or two from now?

Have a list of your goals on hand. Read your list regularly. Did you know that by merely doing so, you actually increase your home business success rate by 100%?

*E – ESTABLISHING YOUR BUSINESS.

This stage refers to the actual nitty-gritty of setting up your home business. This time, you are done with conceptualization and you are ready to get into action. You are now implementing the plan that you have prepared. Here are several steps that will help you establish your home business and achieve home business success:

4) Work on the legal requirements of your home business.

For your venture to be a legal business entity, you need to work on certain formalities. These include registering your business name, applying for a business permit/license, setting up a taxation system, and other paperwork. In this step, you also formulate a compensation plan for your employees.

5) Devise a marketing plan.

How do you create exposure for your products and/or services? Formulate a creative, innovative marketing plan. Consider the following factors/concerns:

. Your target market.

Clearly define your target market. This will help you decide which advertising and promotion strategies would be more appropriate to draw in your prospective clients/customers.

Most of this information comes straight from the business success pros. Careful reading to the end virtually guarantees that you’ll know what they know.

. Your products/services.

Of course, your advertising and promotion techniques will greatly depend on the type of products/services that you sell/offer. Make sure your strategies will “sell” your products/services. If you are offering graphic designing services and you give out poorly-made flyers, you will surely attract no clients at all.

. Your resources.

You cannot aspire for grand and complicated advertisements if you are limited by financial constraints. You can, however, maximize whatever resources are available to you to effectively promote your product. Take advantage of the Internet. By using e-mail, blogging, forums, etc., you can spread the word about your business in a flash!

. Your uniqueness.

“Same-old, same-old” will give you no gold. You can still utilize the most common advertising/promotion strategies, but give them a twist. Think of the most creative ways to catch — and hold! — your customers’ attention. Make offers they can’t resist.

6) Formulate a Daily Method of Operation (DMO).

Make sure that your Daily Method of Operation is practicable, realistic, and goal-oriented. Set specific things to be done during specific hours. Set your priorities for each day. Make sure that such tasks can really be done and that they are done for the purpose of reaching your goals.

7) Manage your time effectively.

Although you practically have time in your own hands and you are your own boss, it does not mean that you can sit back and relax all you want. In fact, you must be more cautious about spending your time because your home business success depends on you — the time and efforts that you commit to your venture.

*P – POWERING UP.

Your home business is already established based on your plan. Can you now just relax and watch the cash flowing in? Of course not! Maintaining a successful home business entails exactly that — “maintenance.” You need to continue working for your home business success. Here are some steps to power up your home business:

  Aim for your personal development.

How do you develop your personality and how can this help you achieve home business success? Consider the following ways:

. Be educated.

Continue learning about your business, as well as about yourself. Participate in meaningful seminars and workshops. Read a lot, especially the stories of successful people. See what you can learn from any situation that you get into. Make each day a learning experience.

. Be motivated.

Read inspirational stories. Listen to motivational news.

. Be sociable.

Of course, you need to interact with other people; otherwise, you cannot do business with them. But besides that and more so, you need to socialize with other people and learn from them. Exchange tips with them. Learn from their mistakes and be inspired by their triumphs.

. Be an inspiration.

Aim for your personal growth and inspire others. If you want to see positive changes in your home business or your financial life, you should first strive to achieve inner growth. Grow from within and develop the without as well.

9) Develop the desirable or must-have traits for home business success.

In connection with step number 8, here are other traits that you should develop for you to achieve success in your home business:

. The 3 P’s – Patience, Persistence/Perseverance, Passion

. The 3 D’s – Desire, Discipline, Determination

. The 3 C’s – Courage, Confidence, Consistency

10) Take care of your health.

This looks too simple, but it is very important in any business endeavor and many people tend to take it for granted. How can you work on your business and attain success if your physical being is poor? Eat a balanced diet. Exercise regularly. Monitor your stress level. Stay physically fit and enjoy your home business feat!

11) Have a balanced life.

Your home business success will not be as meaningful if you do not have success in your personal life. Do not surrender all of yourself to your business. Even Bill Gates takes a week of rest and solitude every month. Have that needed rest. Spend quality time with your loved ones. You will see that as you rejuvenate yourself, you will be more productive and even more prepared to face the various challenges that your home business may pose. Take time to enjoy life, for that, indeed, is the very purpose of your financial success!

12) Have the right mindset.

Do your best and believe that you can and will succeed. Never give up. If Thomas Alva Edison quit when he failed after thousands of trials, we wouldn’t be enjoying the benefits of the electric light bulb today. As the great inventor aptly put it: “Many of life’s failures are done by people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

Yes, you can venture into a home business and enjoy your life. Just follow the “12 Steps To Home Business Success”!

Those who only know one or two facts about home business success can be confused by misleading information. The best way to help those who are misled is to gently correct them with the truths you’re learning here.

FON routers broadcast 2 wifi signals, one is a personal WPA-password protected wifi SSID and the other is the open wifi SSID for sharing your Internet connection using the FON DNS authentication login page so people are not able to do illegal things anonymously on your wifi. This newest Fonera 2.0n router is much more than just a wifi router. It now comes with a powerful embedded processor and a USB host connector so that you can connect USB hard drives, USB dongles, USB printers/webcams and other USB peripherals directly to your router using a USB 2.0 hub and thus have those peripherals always connected to your home local network as well as to the whole Internet. Fonera 2.0n lets you install certain applications developed open-source such as a bittorrent downloader based on Transmission, Youtube/Picasa/Flickr/Facebook video and picture uploaders, Rapidshare/Megaupload downloaders or just run FTP, Samba, Upnp file servers locally on your local network or remotely over the Internet so you can stream all your multimedia files from any other wifi hotspot that you may access all over the Web. The use that I am wanting to have with my new Fonera 2.0n is to constantly have access to Terrabytes of my personal multimedia files from all over the world, any of which streamed using my 2mbit/s or faster home Internet <b>…</b>
Help answer the question about home services
How do I get clients for a home based secretarial services business?
I would like to offer typing, data entry, and graphic services from my home.
Home Health Care Basics

Home health care nursing is a growing industry, with a large number of patients and their families opting for home-based health care. Today there are specific academic programs to train nurses in home care. There are also a number of agencies that place home health care nurses in the appropriate environment with ailing individuals and their families. These agencies match criteria such as the nurse’s experience and qualifications, the patient’s care requirements, budget and the location of the patient and the nurse.

There is a growing need for Home Care Nurses because:

*Aging baby-boomers are now in large numbers
*Changes in technology and medical care in hospitals have brought about a significant change, with shorter inpatient stay and more cases of at-home rehabilitation.

*Medicare, Medicaid and Long Term Care insurance reimbursement and documentation have changed treatment methods
*Aging baby-boomers are now in large numbers
*Changes in technology and medical care in hospitals have brought about a significant change, with shorter inpatient stay and more cases of at-home rehabilitation.
*Increasing medical outpatient procedures, with follow-up home care
*Advances in technology and medical care that have decreased mortality rates but increased morbidity and chronic illness.

The job of a Home Health Care Nurse calls for an array of skills and experience. Specializations include a wide range of treatments including emotional support, educating patients on the road to recovery from illness or injury to women who have experienced childbirth. Special care is also needed for ailing children and the elderly who need palliative care for chronic illnesses.

A practicing nurse must be able to adjust to the unique home setting of each patient. They must have good interpersonal skills to deal with the patient on the one hand and the patient’s family or support structure on the other. The nurse should be experienced and confident enough to make quick autonomous decisions, without the support structure that is available at a hospital or nursing home.

Children with disabilities, be they genetic, congenital or caused by an injury, present a separate set of challenges to a nurse. They require additional skills such as patience and understanding of the needs of the family. Progress in the medical field is not only increasing the lifespan of these children, but is also allowing them to live comparatively independent lives away from the hospital. In this area, a positive attitude and positive reinforcement is of prime importance for the development of the child.

Experienced nurses are familiar with medication procedures and have completed graduate level programs. Most agencies require that these nurses have at least one year of clinical experience prior to working in home health care. Advanced practicing nurses can expedite that training by helping new nurses understand the home health care market and teaching.

Employment And Salary

In the United States, according to the Department of Labor, there were 2.4 million nurses in America, and many in the medical fraternity believe there is a gross shortage in nursing staff. The shortage is expected to grow to 10% in 2010. The average salaries for nurses in the US are:

*$53,450 for hospital nursing
*$49,000 for home care
*$48,200 for nursing care facilities

Training And Continuing Education

Home health care nurses require:

*Associate degree in nursing (ADN), takes 2-3 years to complete
*Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN), takes 4 years to complete. This course allows nurses to pursue advancement into administrative positions or research, consulting, and teaching. It is also essential to become a clinical nurse specialist, nurse anesthetist, nurse midwife, and nurse practitioner (U.S. Department of Labor, 2004).
*Master’s degree in nursing (MSN), with a minimum of two years post-clinical experience for advanced nursing
*All nurses need to have supervised clinical experience during their training

Nurses can also earn specialized professional certificates online in Geriatric Care or Life Care Planning.

All nurses, whether they are working at a hospital, nursing facility, or in home care, need to have continuing education. With constant advances in medicine and the changing face of health care staying abreast with the latest developments enhances patient care and health procedures. Continuing education is offered by universities, continuing education programs, and internet sites. The American Nurses Association (ANA) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) is a popular avenue for continuing education.

The career of a home health care nurse is rewarding. Advances in medicine and decreasing mortality and increasing morbidity bring new challenges and opportunities. It provides an opportunity to make a difference one life at a time. Proper education combined with clinical experience will make the home health care nurse an important cog in the wheel of medical care of tomorrow.

Nursing At Home

Possibly through a period of temporary illness, or because clinical nursing procedures are necessary, you may need assistance from a qualified nurse, rather than a home care worker. Most of what follows in this section applies to home nursing as well as to home care, but there are particular regulations which nursing agencies have to observe. One such regulation to be noted is that the organization supplying your nurse has to be managed by someone who is also a qualified nurse.

The home care you need can vary from an hour or two each week, right up to full time living-in help. You can also have night care with, either someone sleeping in your home with you (usually known as a ‘sleep-in’), or someone who stays awake, ready to assist with any needs you may have. All services may be available over weekends and Bank Holiday periods.

Home Nursing Services welcomes your questions regarding how we may be of service.

Despite the economy, career opportunities in health care and <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/article_exit_link');" rel="external nofollow” target=”_blank” href=”http://attendnursingschool.com/index.cfm”>nursing are booming. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, as recently as 2006, the health care field was the largest in the U.S., offering approximately 14 million jobs as well as seven of the 20 fastest growing occupations.

The following details how to get a career in this in-demand field.

Certification and On-the-Job Training Options

One interesting fact about the health care field is that many positions require less than a four-year degree, in fact some of the fastest growing health care jobs require little or no specialized education. Careers including nursing and home health aides as well as medical and dental assistants get their training on the job or through a certificate program.

Undergraduate Career Options

Undergraduate degrees offer even more nursing and health care career options. Along with traditional careers such as registered nursing, social work and occupational therapy, there are new trends opening in the field of health care. For instance, RNs who might want to follow a different career could consider becoming a certified legal nurse consultant (CLNC). CLNCs assist attorneys with medical issues. Another new job trend is medical illustration. Medical illustrators use their knowledge of human science and medical concepts to create educational materials for publications and journals and can earn as much $75,000 annually.

Higher Education Career Options

Naturally, higher education offers opportunities for surgeons, psychiatrists, cardiologists and other doctors. However, if medical school isn’t your thing, getting a higher education in the health care field offers a variety of other lucrative positions. Genetics, for instance, is a health care field that offers unique and in-demand jobs. Such jobs include behavioral geneticists, who solve health problems by identifying gene-related therapies, and genetics counseling, which involves informing and supporting families who have members with birth defects or genetic disorders.
